Troop 90 has returned from a great weekend at the Race Days Camporee. We had 3 patrols ; A-Team, Spartans, and the Oreo’s that encompassed 18 scouts ready for action. Action was the key word, these guys did a fantastic job in the competition and brought home the trophy…..1st Place Troop Overall !!!!!!
Our Friday night departure and arrival was a typical scout trip. We loaded up at the shed and while driving to the Camporee, the rain machine started. We arrived at Thompson Park in pouring rain and spent the next 2 hours hauling our gear and setting up our campsite. In T90 fashion – this didn’t slow us down – everyone did their job and worked through the rain to accomplish the task at hand. THEN, once we got our last tent up – the rain stopped!!! How typical for a scout outing. Kudos to T90 and T888 for being the only troops to arrive and camp on Friday night – of course they both are S.B. troops and know that scouting is about ‘outing’ and do not let the weather stop them. My motto…..”let the weather dictate your clothing – not your activity”.
That’s enough about the weather – let me talk about the scouts. I first want to mention how well the scouts performed as patrols and as a troop. They used the patrol method wonderfully and I saw quite a few scouts ‘step up’ and show some good leadership. A few of our 1st Class scouts did very well helping the troop function along with a couple of Star and Life scouts. Chris (our ASPL) was flying solo this weekend because of the other leaders in Marching Band– but he had a lot of help. To mention some names….Brian C, Matt Z, Chris H, Michael P, and Somik S were a big help and are on their way to upper leadership in the troop.
Special mention goes to the Spartans and the Oreo’s. These guys performed great as patrols and were very self sufficient. Kudos to the Oreo’s (our 1st Year patrol) who took care of themselves and needed very little assistance – a big accomplishment and one to be very proud of. Not once did I see a problem with any of these patrols. As a Scoutmaster – I’m lovin’ it. LOL
Now for what everyone has been waiting for…..the station scores for T90.

I want to make mention, that for a first year patrol – these ribbons in a Camporee are quite an accomplishment and one to be very proud of. Wear your ribbons on your patrol flag and feel free to boast…lol
And of course – special thanks to the adult Leaders that attended:
Mr. Hickey
Mr. Roff
Mr. Storms
Without these guys our weekend could not have happened…..Soaking wet, high humidity, and always smiling……Troop 90 THANKS YOU!!!!
At every Camporee I ‘put out’ the promise of a steak dinner to any patrol that takes 1st Place in the competition. This time I have a Regular and a Senior Patrol that did it. Looks like my next paycheck is going towards lots and lots of steaks. A small price to pay for greatness…lol
I am very proud of all the boys and I am looking forward to a great year with all of them.
Yours in Scouting,
Mr. Z
