Scouter and College Scouter Reserve Program
Troop 90 traditionally has allowed former members to remain as committee members, or if in college, as assistant scoutmasters. However, with new training requirements coming for 2012, and the increasing size of our troop, it is important to provide inactive committee members and our college scouts an outlet to remain active in scouting.

For example, college scouters in 2012, would be required to completed the training for an assistant scoutmaster including scoutmaster specific training and outdoor leaders skills which are all day/all weekend courses and not online. Therefore, the college scouter reserve program is where they need to be.

Troop 90 will not recharter any scouts who are currently in college or any inactive committee members who don't hold district or council level positions. Instead, we recommend that you transfer to the respective reserve programs.

College Scouter Reserve: For scouts 18 or older currently attending college. It allows you to stay active in scouting while you attend college.
Scouter Reserve: For any other adult scouter who wants to remain active.

Both programs run the same way:

  • Requires only current Youth Protection Training
  • $15 per year for registration (no insurance.)
  • Registration year runs from Aug 1 - Jul 31.
  • Once registered, the scouter is allowed to participate in all scouting activities.

Scenario 1: What to do next if you were a chartered adult (college or committee member) for 2011 (Most people):

  • If you received a phone call or email about this, you are currently registered until 12/31/2011.
  • Please fill out the FORM here and put either "College Scouter Reserve" or "Scouter Reserve"
  • Ensure your Youth Protection training is up to date (within the last 2 years). Send copy of latest cert if able.
  • Write a check to council for $8.75 ($15 prorated for period Jan-Jul,2012).
  • Send check, form and cert to Council no later than 1/1/2012.
  • Note: Those who register as either Scouter Reserve or College Scouter Reserve will receive the form for renewal of their registration by mail in June of each year. This form MUST be signed and returned to the council office with the appropriate registration fee and a copy of their current YP certificate no later than 7/31 in order to avoid a lapse in their registration status.
Scenario 2: What to Do Next if you are a new college scout this semester:
  • If you received a phone call or email about this, you are currently registered until 12/31/2011.
  • Please fill out the FORM here and put either "College Scouter Reserve".
  • Complete Youth Protection Training at myscouting.org. Print out certificate and include with the below material.
  • Get an adult application in the council office or at a Troop 90 meeting, and fill out completely. At the top of the form under "Council/District position" 92-College Scouter Reserve
  • Write a check to council for $8.75 ($15 prorated for period Jan-JUl,2012).
  • Send check, application, form and cert to Council no later than 1/1/2012. Since an adult application is involved, you may want to drop off the paperwork in person to be sure it is all done correctly.

I know this will be a process, but it is necessary if you wish to stay active in scouting while in college or just keep your serrvice to scouting active. Please let me know if you need any assistance during this transition.

Sincerely,
